GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Implement the instructional management plan for students as designated by the principal.

 

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  • Assumes the responsibilities for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
  • Assumes all other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent.
  • Prepares lesson plans with assistance, as directed by an administrator, when lesson plans are not available in the classroom.
  • Maintains appropriate records including checking test papers, recording grades, student assignments for homework, projects and the necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent.
  • Provides assistance for students who need special help on those days when no teacher is absent. 
  • Provides for individualized and small group assistance for students as indicated by lesson plans.

EXPECTATIONS

  •  Provides assistance to students as necessary.
  • Assists with the supervision of students before and after school, during class change, and during break and lunch periods.
  • Maintains attendance and other records for all students assigned to his/her charge and reports this information to the building administrator or his/her designee.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teacher.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Provides students’ completed work to teachers in a timely manner.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct in the classrooms; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures; and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Follows the district’s policy on overtime and the requirements of the Wage and Hour Act.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Assists in the fostering and promotion of a positive school climate.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor during all interactions between colleagues, parents, students and administration. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

An Associate’s Degree or higher, preferably in education

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to be exposed to chemicals.
